15th EFMC Short Course on Medicinal Chemistry

Topic: Small Becomes Big in Medicinal Chemistry: Fragment-based Drug Discover

Description: This intensive course is intended for scientists working in the field, and the presentations will be given by senior scientists from industry and academia. This course will provide an introduction for medicinal chemists to the important concepts and methods, including fragment libraries, fragment screening technologies and relevant computer-aided drug design approaches. The course will finish with a series of presentations on applications of FBDD, including summaries of published fragment to lead optimisation strategies. The course will be organized by the FRAGNET consortium, a European training network dedicated to FBDD.

Individual Projects at Fraunhofer Institutes for PhD students

Funded by: Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft supports internationally networked, application-oriented research and is the largest organisation of its kind in Europe).

Description: PhD students can complete their research while working on exciting projects in the newest areas of technology with state-of-the-art equipment at a Fraunhofer Institute.

Eligibility: PhD students with an outstanding university degree equivalent to a German Master’s degree with the ability to conduct independent research, with teamworking and communication skills and a good knowledge of the English language.

Duration: 3 years with possible extension of up to 6 years

Application procedure: applications should be submitted to the respective Fraunhofer Institute. Vacancies and closing dates are advertised on the websites of individual institutes.


Scholarship Program of the Government of the Republic of Poland for Young Scientists

Scholarship purpose: scientific internship at Polish universities

Internship period: September 2019 – June 2020

Specialties: history, international relations, political science, journalism, sociology, ethnology, cultural studies, social psychology, administration and management, law, as well as related specialties

Requirements for candidates: complete higher education, age up to 35 years, knowledge of the Polish language at a level that allows the candidate to understand lectures and literature in the field of his/her interest (in some cases it will be possible to give scholarships to persons who do not know the Polish language)

Course on “Understanding Open Educational Resources (OER)”

Description: COL has updated its course on “Understanding Open Educational Resources (OER)” to improve the adoption of OER by teachers, educational institutions and policy makers. The course was first introduced in 2015 to address the problem of inadequate understanding of OER and open licences. Over 18,000 learners from 160 countries accessed the two-hour course.

The course is short and succinct to provide distilled information and links to additional resources to enable the learner to pursue deeper interests in specific aspects of OER. Participants can print a certificate of completion at the end of the course. With this new platform, learners will be able to bookmark their progress and complete the course in multiple sessions. COL will also be able to develop a community of practice (CoP) in future around OER, based on the learner participation.

International Summer School at the University of Oslo

Location: Oslo, Norway

Dates: 22 June – 2 August 2019

Schedule and course combinations: it is possible to apply for up to two Bachelor’s courses or one Master’s course. Bachelor’s and Master’s courses cannot be combined. In addition you can follow an optional afternoon seminar.

Admission: admission to the Summer School requires that you meet academic and English language proficiency requirements. You do not have to currently be studying to participate.

Fees: USD 3,240 (on-campus fee); USD 1,325(Off-campus fee)

Housing: when you apply you must choose on- or off-campus housing. On-campus space is limited and we recommend applicants who wish to live on campus to apply early.
