On November 28-30, 2017, delegation of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, KAUNAS visited the NUPh.

Friendship and partnership between the NUPh and the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences has more than 15 years of history. One of the main directions of bilateral cooperation – annual academic exchanges – was implemented in the framework of Erazmus+ Program in 2017: postgraduate student of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of the NUPh Mihal Artem underwent a scientific internship in Lithuania and an exchange of lecturers took place in order to deliver a series of master class lectures.

During the meeting with acting Rector of the NUPh Prof. Kotvitska A.A. and Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Prof. Georgiyants V.A., Prof. Eduardas Tarasevichus and Prof. Ludas Ivanauskas discussed the results of projects implemented in 2017, as well as the steps of further scientific cooperation that will be announced in the grant application in 2018.

From April 24 to April 28, 2017, lecturers of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Medical University of Varna (Bulgaria) visited the NUPh

The event was held in accordance with the bilateral agreement between the National University of Pharmacy and the Medical University of Varna (Bulgaria) as a part of the teaching grant under the program ERASMUS + Staff mobility for teaching (grant ERTC 17/06.03.2017).

The Medical University of Varna was represented by Professor of the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine and Nutrigenomics Bistra Kalcheva-Galunska and Assistant Professor of the Department of Medico-biological Sciences, Training and Research Sector of Pharmacology, Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biology Miglena Todorova.

In order to provide scientific advice on further cooperation and joint scientific research, the Bulgarian delegation visited the following Departments of the NUPh during their visit to the NUPh:

– Clinical Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy (Head of the Department – Prof. I.A. Zupanets)

– Chemistry of Natural Compounds (Head of the Department – Prof. V.S. Kyslychenko)

– Pharmacognosy (Head of the Department – Assoc. Prof. O.M. Koshovyi)

– Biochemistry (Head of the Department – Prof. A.L. Zahaiko)

– Pharmacology (Head of the Department – Prof. S.Yu. Shtryhol)

– Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Head of the Department – Prof. V.A. Georgiyants)

On April 25-26, Professor of the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine and Nutrigenomics of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Medical University of Varna Bistra Kalcheva-Galunska presented 4 master-class lectures to students, postgraduate students and young scientists of the NUPh.

There were delivered lectures on the following topics: “Noncalcemic effects of fat-soluble cholecalciferol vitamin”, “Vitamin D deficiency: definition, evaluation, consequences, risk factors”, “New biochemical role of fat-soluble vitamin menaquinone”, “Strategies to overcome vitamin D3 and K2 deficiency”. Lectures were conducted in English language.

On April 27, the Bulgarian delegation began scientific cooperation together with the Department of Chemistry of Natural Compounds on the basis of raw materials brought from Bulgaria.

Professor Bistra Kalcheva-Galunska shared her impressions of the visit to the NUPh. In particular, she noted that she has been being invited to lecture at the leading universities in Europe for more than ten years, but this is her first visit to Ukraine. According to her observations, there is no difference between students from different countries – young people everywhere are sufficiently motivated and active. The difference lies in the method of teaching of higher education institutions themselves. For example, there is no distance education in Bulgaria in the field of pharmacy. Professor Bistra Kalcheva-Galunska also shared her good impressions of the level of both the academic staff of the NUPh and the material and technical facilities of the University. She noted that, in her opinion, the NUPh administration pursue a promising policy of cooperation with foreign universities.

At the beginning of this year, the Medical University of Varna was visited by faculty members of the NUPh Associate Professor of the Department of the Chemistry of Natural Compounds L.V. Lenchik and Associate Professor of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy V.V. Pripisnova with a cycle of lectures. Professor Bistra Kalcheva-Galunska is very pleased that she had the opportunity to pay a return visit to her Ukrainian colleagues.

According to the results of the visit of the Bulgarian delegation, there are several proposals for further cooperation between our educational institutions, namely:

– the possibility of making publications in the scientific journal of the University of Varna “Scripta Scientifica Pharmaceutica” (www.press.mu-varna.bg)

– the opportunity to participate in the conference in October 2017 on the basis of the University of Varna.
