Author guidelines. “Journal of organic and pharmaceutical chemistry”

 General requirements

Journal of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (JOrgPharmChem) publishes authentic articles, letters to the Editorial Board and reviews in organic, physico-organic, hetero-organic and pharmaceutical chemistry. The languages of publications are Ukrainian, Russian and English. Articles (the total volume is up to 15 pages of a typescript text, including tables, figures, graphs, references) should be authentic, previously unpublished theoretical or experimental research results. Reviews (up to 40 pages of a typescript text) should cover the novel problems of organic, physico-organic, hetero-organic and pharmaceutical chemistry. Generalizations of the author’s results in up-to-date research directions are taken for publication. The subject-matter of reviews should be preliminary approved with the editorial board. Letters to the Editorial Board (up to 2 pages of a typescript text) should contain the material possessing the essential research novelty and be worthy of immediate publication for preservation of the author’s priority. The publisher sends the article to two reviewers, and after their evaluation the decision concerning the possibility of publishing the manuscript is taken. If the article needs some corrections, the authors should submit the corrected version with the original one with the reviewer’s or editor’s amendments to the publisher within 3 months. When exceeding the term the manuscript will be re-registered as a newly taken one with the corresponding change of the date of its publication. The publisher sends proofs to the author. In the author’s proof it is permitted only the corrections of errors made during the composition. In case of delaying proof corrections by the author the publisher reserves the right to publish the article without the author’s corrections.

 Submission of articles

 To the editorial office of JOrgPharmChem to the address of the National University of Pharmacy (53, Pushkinska str., Kharkiv, 61002) or the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (5, Murmanska str., Kyiv, 02094) the following materials are submitted: 1) one copy of the manuscript signed by the authors with the address and telephone for correspondence, 2) an accompanying letter of the organization with the expert evaluation about the possibility of publication of the given article in public media, 3) the electronic version of the article sent to the address of the Editorial Board: press@ukrfa.kharkov.ua. Authors of the articles submitted to the Editorial Board for publication in the journal confirm with their personal signatures on the copies of their manuscripts:

  • the consent to record-keeping of the authors’ data required for the articles processing (full name, academic title, academic degree, position and place of work, address for correspondence, office telephone, E-mail) by the Editorial Board with the purpose of providing relations in the field of intellectual property rights, including copyright;
  • permission for publication of personal data of the authors (full name, academic title, academic degree, place of work, office telephone, E-mail) in the journal together with the article;
  • the consent to making public the complete on-line version of the article (or abstracts) on the sites of the National University of Pharmacy, the National library of Ukraine named after V.I.Vernadsky and other portals of academic periodical publications with the obligatory reference and maintenance of moral right.

Requirements for Manuscripts

The article should be printed using WORD (text editor), ISIS (chemical formulas and schemes), EXCEL (graphs). The text is double-spaced, Тimes New Roman, size 14 рt on a white basic standard sheet (А4, 210х297 mm) with 2 cm edges on each side. The article should contain: 1) title page, 2) introduction, 3) results and discussion, 4) experimental part, 5) conclusions, 6) list of references, 7) tables, 8) schemes, 9) figures, 10) list of image-related texts. The title page of the article should have UDC and begin with the informative title representing the essence of the paper with the maximum accuracy. If the publication is serial communication, its title is supplemented by a footnote giving the reference to the previous paper. Serial communications are numbered with Arabic numerals. Under the title initials and surnames of the authors are given, as well as the name, address and E-mail of the organization (organizations) where the work is performed. Then 3-8 key words in Ukrainian, Russian and English are given. Then the summary of the article in Ukrainian, Russian and English. The texts of the summaries must begin with the title of the article, initials and surnames of the authors; they should be similar in their content and convey fully the meaning of the article in brief. The information content of the title page, key words and three summaries must be 5200 – 5500 characters with spaces. The abstract is not given in Letters to Editorial Board.

The introduction should contain the importance of the problem, references for works of predecessors, and the aim and the task of the authors’ own research should be formulated in plain and precise terms.

Discussion of results. The content of the work should be clear and brief. The known statements, repetition of the results in the text, tables and figures should be avoided. For chemical compounds, which are described in the article for the first time, or those that are the main target of research the full name according to the IUPAC nomenclature is given together with the formula. For this purpose it is recommended to use:

Compounds mentioned more than one time should be numbered with arabic figures and accentuate them in the text and schemes in bold type without brackets. For alphabetic notation of compounds numbers it is recommended to use only Latin alphabet. It is desirable to denote intermediates and transition states by direct capital letters.

Data of X-ray diffraction analysis are given in the form of a drawing of the molecule with the numbered atoms (or crystalline packing) and the basic geometric parameters as a table or caption. The complete tables with the atoms coordinates, temperature factors, bond lengths, bond and torsion angles are not published in the journal, but deposited at the Cambridge bank of the structural data (deposit@ccdc.cam.uk). In the experimental part crystallographic data (parameters of the elementary cell, spatial group, etc.), details of the experiment and clarification of the structures, as well as the deposit number at the Cambridge bank are indicated.

The experimental part contains information about equipment and conditions of measurement. In the chemical procedures the amounts of reagents in mole and mass units (for catalysts – mass and mole percentage), the volumes of solvents, the amount and yields of the compounds obtained are given; when growing crystals the solution must be indicated.

The data of ultimate analysis or a mass-spectrum of high resolution should be submitted for all compounds synthesized for the first time. In empirical gross formulas the elements are arranged according to the Chemical Abstracts system: C, H and then according to Latin alphabet.

Constants and data of ultimate analysis are given in the following way: B.p. 81°С (10 mm Hg), M.p. 50-52°С (ЕtOН), spectroscopic characteristics. Found, %:С 63.06; Н 5.05; Сl 21.00. М+ 154. CaHbClcNdOe. Calculated %: С 63.22; Н 5.01; С1 21.20. М. 154.88.

When describing NMR spectra the following abbreviations are used: s – singlet, d – doublet, t – triplet, q – quartet, m – multiplet. Example: NMR spectrum 1Н, σ, m.d.: 1.40 s (ЗН, СН3), 2.07-2.65 m (6Н, ЗСН2), 4.78 s (1Н, СН), 5.27d (J 7.5Hz), 9.05s (1Н, ОН)

In Letters to the Editorial Board the experimental part is not indicated in a separate section, information concerning equipment and terms of measurement is given at the end of the text.

The list of literature is given at the end of the article after the conclusions.

The literature sources used (not less than 60% of them should be in a foreign language) are numbered in the same order, in which they are mentioned in the text.

Tables should be printed on separate sheets and have numbering and headings. As a rule, the structural formulas in tables are not given. Notes for tables are indexed by letters arranged alphabetically across the table.

It is recommended to plot figures using computers. In this case it is necessary to submit graphic files to the publisher together with their paper form. curves are numbered either with arabic figures on figures or are labelled by special symbols decoded by captions. It is undesirable to depict structural and other formulas on figures. The intersection of coordinate axes should be arranged in the left corner of the figure, arrows at the end of axes are not assigned, lines bounding the margins of the figure are not drawn, the graticule is not plotted.

Manuscripts made without the given rules are not registered by the publisher and they are not returned to the authors.
