Areas of research: design and synthesis of pharmacologically perspective heterocyclic building blocks. Chemistry of benzo- and thienopyrimidines; spiropyrimidines and spiro-2-oxindoles synthesis using multicomponent domino reactions; study of the synthetic potential of cyclic sulfonamides in multicomponent interactions; condensed synthesis of 4H-pyran, 4H-spiro-pyran, 2H-pyran, 4H-thiopyran and 2-pyridone systems based on 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and their synthetic analogs.

Scientific achievements: Valentin P. Chernykh is an outstanding scientist, an organic chemist, whose works are recognized by the domestic and world community. He is the author of more than 1300 scientific works, including scientific articles in the field of organic, pharmaceutical, physical, medical chemistry and research on the biological activity of synthesized substances, 27 monographs, 10 textbooks, including the textbook ‘Organic Chemistry’ in 3 books, that in 2000 was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology (the textbook was published in Ukrainian, Russian, English), 69 teaching aids, 67 author’s texts of lectures. The second edition of the textbook ‘Organic Chemistry’ (2007, 2008) is the first color edition of the textbook on chemistry in Ukraine. In 2014, textbooks ‘Organic Chemistry’ (2007, 2008) and ‘Clinical Pharmacy’ (2013) received the stamp of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine ‘National Textbook’. V.P. Chernykh has created a powerful scientific school that successfully solves theoretical and applied problems in the field of organic synthesis, physical chemistry and pharmacy. Scientist has prepared more than 60 doctors and candidates of sciences. Now under his supervision one doctoral and one candidate’s thesis is being carried out.

Novelty and relevance of scientific research of V.P. Chernykh confirm 126 patents and 341 copyright certificates (among which 119 – on the methods of obtaining BAS and study the pharmacological effect of synthesized substances).

V.P. Chernykh is the author and co-author of 16 original medications. Developed methodology of designing and synthesizing of BAS allowed to synthesize several medicinal substances and develop new medicines on their basis: hypoglycemic medicine ‘Glysulfazid’, antidiabetic ‘Diakamf’, hemostatic ‘Succiphenate’, analgesic ‘Analben’, anti-inflammatory ‘Prolidoxid’ , antiseptic ‘Peronix’, β-adrenoblocker ‘Cardacet’, membranoprotector ‘Melina’, analgesic ‘Valkofen’, analgesic ‘Paravit’, hepatoprotector ‘Piflamin’, ‘Oksaglyukamin’ and others, hold the development of analytical documents, technical regulations and other components of the registration dossier for their industrial production.
