It was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Department of Biological Chemistry of the NUPh, 30th anniversary of the Department of Pathological Physiology of the NUPh and 110th anniversary of the outstanding Ukrainian biochemist, member of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, D.Sc. in Biology, professor Aron Mikhailovich Utevsky.
On the occasion of such great anniversaries organizers arranged a gala opening for the guests of the forum: concert part where chamber orchestra «Fortunati» performed several musical sketches from the repertoire of classical and contemporary composers. To the address of heroes of the anniversaries were made many warm wishes. The colleagues prepared gifts and souvenirs for conference organizers. Thus, representatives of ZaporozhyeStateMedicalUniversity compose the ode and were handed a symbolic Cossack mace and KharkivNationalMedicalUniversity gave exquisite vases as a symbol of inexhaustibility of scientific knowledge.
To participate in the conference came scientists-biochemists, pathophysiologists, pharmacologists from the National Research University “Belgorod State University” (Russia), Kharkiv National Medical University, Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, V.J. Danilevsky Institute of Problems of Endocrine Pathology (Kharkiv), V.P. Komisarenko Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolism (Kyiv), D.F.Chebotarev State Institute of Gerontology (Kyiv), Sumy State University, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Odessa State Medical University, Zaporizhia State Medical University, Lugansk State Medical University the Crimea State Medical University named after S. I. Georgievsky, Kharkov State Zooveterinary Academy, State scientific centre of medicine (Kharkiv). Altogether the scientific forum gathered about 150 participants, and there were presented and discussed 15 reports.
Intense interest of the participants caused the report by the head of the Department of physiology and pathophysiology with the course of medical biology from SumyStateUniversity, professor Aleksandr Vasilievich Ataman on topical issues of molecular and genetic mechanisms of arterial calcification, which is a cause of acute coronary syndrome, ischemic stroke, hypertension and arterial aneurysm. The mechanisms that initiate the calcification of the vessel wall were indicated: they include disorder of organization and exchange of elastin, active genetically programmed active calcification and calcification, which depends on apoptosis. Issues of clinical interrelations between vascular calcification and reduced bone density in osteoporosis were discussed during the active debate.
In the report of the head of the Department of Topographic Anatomy and Pathological Physiology from Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, professor Nikolay Alekseevich Klimenko was made the analysis of current views on the role of inflammation in diseases that are not actually inflammatory: tumors, atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease, neurodegenerative diseases. In particular, the probable links that connect inflammation and tumor development are cytokines of chronic inflammation, tissue stem cells as targets for mutagens, direct promotion of genomic instability in cells through the production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen, induction in inflammation expression COX-2. On the other hand, recent studies have shown that inflammation necessarily is a key element of microenvironment of tumors that are not epidemiologically related to inflammation.
Director of the Center for preclinical and clinical trials of the National Research University “Belgorod State University”, head of the Department of pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences, professor Mikhail Pokrovskiy appeared with greetings and stressed the importance of scientific cooperation with the NUPh, he told about the planned further development of scientific research programs and their implementation in practical medicine. Professor Pokrovskiy presented the results of years long research of the problem of pharmacological correction of endothelial dysfunction with the help of arginase enzyme 2.
Member of the D.F.Chebotarev State Institute of Gerontology (Kyiv), Darya Vladimirovna Savitskaya preszented the report on research of structural characteristics and apoptotic changes of sensorimotor brain cortex of the rats of different ages after experimental traumatic brain injury and gene therapy with plasmid that carries the gene apoE3 in combination with cationic liposomes.
The pathogenetic grounding of the effectiveness of drug correction of experimental reperfusion syndrome with combined administration of inhibitors of proteolysis and antioxidants was highlighted in the report by Mikhail Igorevich Fedosov from the Crimea State Medical University named after S. I. Georgievsky.
The interest of the forum participants caused the reports by conference organizers on the history and development of scientific and educational achievements of the departments that celebrating anniversary.
Head of the Department of Pathological Physiology of the NUPh, professor Nadezhda Nikolaevna Kononenko presented the reported on 30 year old process of development of teaching and research capacity of the Department of Pathological Physiology, which was established with the help of D.Sc. in Medicine, professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology, distinguished professor of the NUPh Alla Ilyinichna Berezniakova. For a long period of time at the Department were defended 11 doctoral and 34 master’s dissertations, developed sets of educational literature on pathological physiology in Ukrainian, Russian and English. Academic teaching staff of the Department has also participated in the creation of national textbook on pathological physiology.
Professor Kononenko noted that today at the Department there are two powerful schools of pathophysiologists and pharmacologists, allowing a constant expanding and deepening of the subjects of research, opening up new perspectives. Also, the speaker drew the audience’s attention to controversial issues of modern developmental trends in pathophysiology as an educational subject that needs to be constantly filled with the latest scientific facts, especially in molecular pathology, and widely use methods of didactics to facilitate the mastering of complex training material by students.
In the report devoted to the 75th anniversary of the Department of Biological Chemistry of the NUPh, head of the Department of Biological Chemistry, professor Andrey Leoidovich Zagayko emphasized the importance of biochemistry for mankind as one of the theoretical and practical foundations of medicine, pharmacy, biotechnology, genetic engineering and other branches of industry, he also told about the history and present of the department. Much attention professor Zagayko paid to eminent scientist and biochemist, founder of the Department of Biochemistry, corresponding member of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, D.Sc in of Biology, professor Aron Mikhailovich Utevsky .
