Dedication to the 100th anniversary of prof. Pavlo Olexiyovich Petyunin’s birth!
On the 22 of February 2014 year 100th birth anniversary of the prominent scientist, patriarchy of chemical science, founder of scientific schools in the fields of synthesis of biologically active compounds in Perm and Kharkov pharmaceutical institutes, Doctor of chemistry, professor, head of organic chemistry department of Kharkov pharmaceutical institute (KhPhI) (1962-1985 years) vice-rector for scientific and study work of KhPhI (1971-1975 years) Petyunin Pavlo Olexiyovich was celebrated.
With the begining of P.O.Petyunin’s work in The Kharkov pharmaceutical institute the academic activities, approach to lecturing and conducting laboratory classes have been fundamentally changed. During all his pedagogical life, the power of profesor Petyunin’s creativity was directed on the improvement of organic chemistry eductaion, growth of impact of lecturer and the teacher in the laboratory on the study process. Professor P.O. Petyunin masterfully gave lectures, with a great devotion to science without referring to his notes, dazzling the students with excellence and sophistication in presenting the material. Such approach to the lecture material presentation became the standard practice in the Kharkov Pharmaceutical institute and the National University of Pharmacy then. Interesting lectures of professor P.O.Petyunin stuck to student’s and teacher’s memory across many generations. The department became leading in teaching organic chemistry in medical and pharmaceutical higher schools of the USSR.
Under his supervision a fundamentally new scientific approach originated – synthesis of biologically active compounds in the range of oxamic acids and the products of their transformation, creation of theoretical basis for target-based search of new medicines.
Petyunin Pavlo Olexiyovich was bright and extraordinary person, the real leader. His efforts helped many talented and famous chemists-scientists to establish their own scientific schools with the number of disciples, who promoted the active ascent of high pharmaceutical education in Kharkov. Much of his efforts were directed to people’s good. The memory of professor Petyunin P.O., his high morality, encyclopaedic knowledge and teaching skills will always remain with his progenies, colleagues and all of the people, who know him.
Ukrainian scientific and applied conference “Problems of synthesis of biologically active compounds and creation of new medicinal substances from them”, a conference in honor of the Doctor in chemistry, professor, head of organic chemistry department of Kharkov pharmaceutical institute (KhPhI) (1962-1985 years) Petyunin Pavlo Oleksiyovich (100th birth anniversary ) will be held on April, 24-25th 2014 year, city Kharkiv, National University of Pharmacy, in chemical and technological buildings.
