In the 1920s – 1930s

In connection with the so-called “unification of pharmaceutical education” (1924) the expediency of the existence of higher pharmaceutical establishments was questioned. The institute ceased its activities according to the decision of the Main Ukrainian vocational education and training. The teaching staff was transferred to the Kharkov Pharmaceutical College (existed since 1922), which has acted as a higher educational institution since then.

In 1924 the staff of the college undergoes significant changes, because it is connected with the new concept of pharmaceutical products, which was implemented by the authorities. She proclaimed that the technical schools had to become the main center for training pharmaceutical personnel in the USSR. After the formal closure of the KCIFh, the two schools of physics and pharmacy were actually merged.

The technical school has received the status of the institute since 1930. The existence of 9 pharmaceutical institutes in the country, including Kharkiv, was officially confirmed by the decree of the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR in 1936.

Recognition of the necessity and importance of higher pharmaceutical education, the assignment of the status of the Institute to the Kharkov Pharmaceutical College positively affected its activities. So, in 1930 the pharmaceutical institute, except the autumn students’ admission, the spring one is additionally taken place. The worker’s faculty, the extramural and evening faculties have worked since 1928. In 1932 the University had 426 people.

The authority of the Kharkov Pharmaceutical Institute grew, it had all the highest positions in the world of pharmaceutical science. So, it is not surprising that it was the Kharkiv delegation (which included professors M.O. Valyshko, A.D. Rosenfeld, Y.V. Korshun, etc.), who participated in the All-Ukrainian Conference on Pharmaceutical Education, in 1932 was commissioned to develop a training program for pharmaceutical universities.

In 1937 the All-Union Committee of Higher Education granted the Academic Council of the Institute the right to award candidates to a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences. In the pre-war period the Kharkiv Pharmaceutical Institute (HFI) trained 1379 specialists; about 40 theses were defended; research was done on 40 scientific topics.
