Stanislavsky Boris Nikolayevich (1888-?)

Director of Kharkov pharmaceutical institute, 1936-1937

Boris Nikolayevich Stanislavsky was born in 1888 inKharkov region. He graduated from KharkovUniversity. In 1936 B.N. Stanislavsky was appointed the director of Kharkov pharmaceutical institute.

Boris Nikolayevich put his many efforts to make the institute continue its path of development and transformation into the educational and research base for the domestic pharmaceutical industry.

His attitude to students was characterized with exactingness and concern. It was under the directorship of B.M. Stanislavsky that the role of the work practice of students has greatly increased and it started to be conducted on the recommendations of the departments considering future job assignments. Boris Nikolayevich put a lot of energy and effort into organizing of the extracurricular life of students, their harmonious spiritual and physical development. A striking example of the institute sporting life activization was a winning of the Cup by track and field team of KhPhI at All-Ukrainian sports contest among medical schools in 1937.

During this period the vast majority of the institute teachers were given an opportunity to be actively engaged in research work. Publishing activity was intensified: works that had theoretical and practical significance were published. With a view of KhPhI staff achievements in research work under the directorship of B.M. Stanislavsky, in 1937 the All-Union Committee for Higher Education gave to the Academic Council of the Institute right to award the degree of Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The same year 13 dissertations were defended for the degree of Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences and one dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Sciences. In 1936 the institute conducted researches on 19 scientific topics, in 1937 – already 33.
