Despite the great number of anti-inflammatory drugs, the problem of the effective and safe therapy of rheumatic diseases has not yet been solved. That is why the continuous search for new treatments and drugs with the non-traditional mechanism of action and minimal side effects is carried out. The article presents the results of the experimental study of the anti-inflammatory action of thick extracts from common burdock roots and leaves on the model of adjuvant arthritis in rats. It has been proven that by their anti-exudative activity, by the influence on the leukocytes level, the ESR and the sialic acids content thick extracts from common burdock roots and leaves are inferior to diclofenac sodium. By the effect on the cytolytic enzymes activity and the level of the alkaline phosphatase in the blood serum of the experimental animals burdock drugs were not inferior to the action of the reference drug. The extracts of burdock roots and leaves were significantly superior to the effect of diclofenac sodium on the total protein level and antioxidant indices. Thus, thick extracts of burdock are the promising drugs for use in the complex treatment of rheumatic diseases.
