Today, our Ukrainian flag flies all over the world. Under its colors, the Armed Forces of Ukraine courageously defend their homeland, protecting each of us from the aggressor. Each of our men and women carries this flag in their hearts, knowing that the whole country stands behind them.
Under this banner, our athletes win at international competitions and Olympics, raising our flag to the highest steps of the pedestals of honor. Their achievements inspire us to do new deeds and once again prove that Ukrainians are a nation of strong, talented and indomitable people.
The colors depicted on Ukrainian symbols are very easy to decipher, but their meaning is deeper. The blue color symbolizes the CLEAN(!) sky, and the yellow symbolizes the wheat fields, which speaks of the fertility and wealth of the Ukrainian land.
In addition to this, Pantone dedicated to Ukraine two colors that symbolize freedom and action. The colors of the flag were named: freedom blue and energizing yellow.
The flag of Ukraine in its current form was approved in 1992 by the Verkhovna Rada. However, its history began during the revolution of 1848-1849, when the Main Russian Council in Lviv (the first Ukrainian political organization in Galicia) adopted a yellow-blue combination of flag colors. These colors quickly spread to the Ukrainian lands, which at that time were part of Austria-Hungary, and after the revolution of 1905-1907 in Russia – and to Transdnieper Ukraine.
Eleven years later, the Central Rada in Kyiv adopted the Law on the National Flag of the Ukrainian Republic, which was yellow and blue (yellow – above, blue – below). Its meaning was as follows:
– yellow, gold – symbolized the Creator, God the Father and the Supreme Spirituality;
– blue is everything earthly, as well as the freedom of choice, with which the Creator endowed his creations in the hope that they will not abuse.
In this form, the flag did not last long, and during the reign of the Hetmanate of Pavel Skoropadsky, it was again changed to blue-yellow.
After the arrival of Soviet power, the Ukrainian flag was completely changed, and the historical yellow-blue colors did not spread until the declaration of independence of Ukraine in 1991, after which the blue-yellow state flag of Ukraine was approved in 1992.
From ancient times, and especially now, throughout the world, the blue-yellow color of our flag represents courage, independence, democratic values and the best virtues characteristic of the courageous Ukrainian people. This, of course, is the color of our victory, which our Armed Forces of Ukraine, all workers at the front and in the rear, our international partners are confidently approaching! It will definitely be in Ukraine!
The Student Self-Government of NUPh wishes each of us to proudly carry this flag in our hearts, remembering our
