UDC 615.322:616-009.24 THE SCREENING INVESTIGATION OF THE ANTICONVULSANT ACTIVITY OF DRY EXTRACTS FROM 8 SPECIES OF PLANTS OF THE FAMILIES OF SOLANACEAE, PAPAVERACEAE, LAMIACEAE AND POLEMONIACEAE V.V.Tsyvunin, S.Yu.Shtrygol, Yu.S.Prokopenko, V.A.Georgiyants

The screening investigation of the anticonvulsant activity of dry extracts from 8 species of plants of the families of Solanaceae, Papaveraceae, Lamiaceae and Polemoniaceae on the model of corazol-induced seizures in mice has been carried out. By the research results the aqueous and 50% ethanolic dry extracts of motherwort, the aqueous dry extract of basil and the aqueous dry extract of fumitory in the doses of 100 mg/kg have an expressed anticonvulsant activity (there was significant increase of the latent period, decrease in the number of clonic and tonic attacks per 1 mouse, severity of seizures, the time of the convulsive period and mortality). At the same time the aqueous dry extract of datura and the aqueous dry extract of Jacob’s-ladder in similar doses possess expressed proconvulsive properties (in particular, they reduce the latent period, increase the number of attacks per a mouse and % of mice with tonic convulsions). The results obtained confirm the necessity of further study of the above-mentioned dry extracts on the experimental models of seizures with different pathogenesis.
